Aftercare Tips for SMP Treatment

SMP Treatment for Men

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) treatment is relatively harmless, and involves the deposition of pigment into the scalp to give the look of short, natural hair on the scalp. But what happens after you’ve had the treatment done? Worried about the pigment running off of your scalp like paint? We’ve got a rundown on tips on aftercare that can ensure the SMP hair treatment’s effects look good for the long run:

DAY 1 – 4:

For the first four days, the treated area should be left untouched for the most part. There will be scabs on your scalp, which will require healing to take place. Moisture on the head should be avoided, because of which you will not be able to shower, engage in exercise that could cause the scalp to sweat or go swimming. The pigments start to settle into the scalp at this point and can be touched after this phase. Resist the temptation to touch and wash your head.

DAY 5 – 7:

The pigments will mostly settle, but there will be scabs on your head that should not be disturbed, or else the pigments lose their effect. Because of its exfoliating features, try not to use hot water to wash your head as it can cause the pigments to come off.

Cold water should be exclusively used for cleaning, and moisturizing your head will also be beneficial, provided you do not vigorously rub your head when doing so. Shaving your head should generally be avoided unless necessary, making sure not to touch any scabs that are still healing.

DAY 7 and Onward:

By this point, things will be back to normal. Unless you have scabs on your head in the healing phase, you can razor shave your head. Other than that, you can go about your day as usual, and the restriction of using only cold water for showers and exercise are lifted.
